Australian Communication and Media Authority broadcasting@acma.gov.au [TODAY’S DATE] To whom it may concern, I am not happy about the way Free To Air (FTA) TV stations in this country are handling the move to digital TV. I would like you as the regulators in this area to fix this situation. The fact that a FTA TV station can be allowed to try and restrict access to information about what shows are on when is simply not good enough. If we allow the FTA TV broadcasters access to the airwaves in Australia, they need to at least provide the basic information necessary to make digital TV a viable and useful proposition for the general public. Access to reliable guide data in an electronic form is necessary for the success of digital TV in this country. As a consumer of TV in this country, I am incensed to find out that we are so far behind the rest of the civilised world in this regard. There are many great devices round the world for using digital TV and I’d like to think that the public in this country is free to choose what they use to receive FTA DTV, and not be dictated to by the commercial TV stations. I want you to ensure that all FTA TV broadcasters are compelled via their licence conditions to make freely available and unrestricted guide information for 7 days detailing what they are broadcasting and when. This needs to be regulated to stop the current situation where companies can use copyright laws and “back-door” means to control guide access, and by doing so limit my freedom of choice. Please let me know what you plan to do to rectify this currently silly situation. Yours sincerely [YOUR NAME] [YOUR POSTAL ADDRESS]
